Legendary matches, names hidden
The Sports Time Machine takes you back to six years, 1980, 1990, 1992, 2002, 2008 and 2016, and asks you to predict three results in each. Team and player names are hidden; you only get clues about form and mood at the time, like "a four-time Olympic champion, essentially a professional national team" or "a squad of college amateurs with an average age of 21." Predict whether the favorite wins or the underdog pulls off an upset, allocate virtual funds, and see what happened.
All money in the game is virtual, and there's no way to put real money on any real sporting event. It's a quiz-style trip through the history of matches that are long over.

Why upsets stick in our memory
Play for a while and you'll notice that upsets are far more memorable than favorites winning as expected. Once you know the result an upset looks obvious, but looking only at pre-match clues, most people pick the favorite. Reward multipliers are game rules loosely based on experts' pre-match expectations. Getting past matches right is a test of memory, not of predicting future games.
